Original and impressive monumental piece with cavernous interior in patinated elm incorporating mid shelf and drawer whist having two decorated lower drawers
The form of the cabinet is laquered black and square edged not rounded, intended to impress with its volume and sheer size offset in turn by light catching the decorative narrative gilt painting as a tableau on the doors, panels and drawers to the facade and border
Closer examination reveals representations in wonderful gilded and red paintwork of tea ceremony paraphenalia, paper lanterns and sacred plants and flowers in urns, all in impressive detail with the scene being framed by a border of beautifully executed foliate and finely geometric motifs, imparting an original elegance to the whole
The patinated brass closing clasp and shaped back plate are positioned high up on the cabinet, emphasising the vertical line; All in good, original condition with wear and tear commensurate with age.
